A Special “Thursdays on the Terrace” Appearance by DJ King Britt
One of the most sought after remixers in the world, Philadelphia DJ and producer King Britt will visit the James M. Johnston Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence to meet with students and talk about his work.
King Britt toured with Digable Planets and crafted unforgettable dance music sets in clubs around the globe, remixing the work of Macy Gray, Tori Amos, Yoko Ono, Curtis Mayfield, The Ojays, Gamble and Huff, Destiny’s Child and more.
The subject of King Britt’s groundbreaking live video mix, to be performed at Memorial Hall on February 16, is Sister Gertrude Morgan, a New Orleans painter, singer and self-proclaimed “Bride of Christ” whose explosive folk art is celebrated in international museums. Salon.com calls King Britt’s work “…a revelation….”
During his Johnston Center visit, King Britt will show a short documentary about the making of the Sister Gertrude project, demonstrate remixing, and answer questions from students and faculty.
King Britt’s visit with students is co-sponsored by the James M. Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence and Carolina Performing Arts and is free and open to the public.
