Lumbee and Tuscarora music by two celebrated Native American recording artists. Co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of the American South.

Kwabena Osei Appiagyei Thursday, September 11, John Lindsay Morehead II Lounge, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Widely recognized as one of West Africa's finest traditional percusionists, and a master musician for the Ghana Ensemble at the University of Ghana-Legon. Co-sponsored with the Curriculum in Folklore.

Masterful interpretations of Mississippi blues by this widely acclaimed guitarist and folklorist.

One of the Piedmont's most celebrated gospel groups, featuring the masterful improvisational keyboard stylings of Wilbur Tharpe. Co-sponsored by the Curriculum in Folklore.

UNC undergraduates under the direction of Michael Kris, Department of Music.

Bobby Rush and Band
Thursday, October 2, Student Union Auditorium, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Rush earned acclaim in Chicago in the 1950's-60's by performing and recording with artists like Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Willie Dixion, Little Milton, and Earl Hooker. Ticket $15, sold through the Student Union Box Office.

Emerging legend on the blues guitar, garnering high praise from renowned players like Taj Mahal.

Southern Culture on the SkidsThursday, October 30, Educational Foundation Terrace, 12:00-2:00 p.m. Alt-country, Chapel-Hill based Southern Culture on the Skids has been releasing original, Southern-fried rockabilly boogie since 1985.

Thomas Cooper, Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, discusses and performs the music of Liszt, Bartok, and Kodaly.

UNC Guitar Ensemble Thursday, November 20, John Lindsay Morehead II Lounge, 12-2:00 p.m.
UNC undergraduates Scott O'Day, Pavel Yarmolenko, Brian Hill, and Josh Nowlan will perform In addition to solos, the guitar ensemble willl perform duos by Bach, Carulli, and Piazolla; and a quartet performance of compositions by Albeniz and Ravel.

DJ Pez & Cream De La Thursday, December 4, John Lindsay Morehead II Lounge, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
DJ Pez and Cream De La easily rank as two of the region's finest hip-hop artists, bringing to their performances a level of musical and lyrical skill that has earned them widespread acclaim. As the heart of Chapel Hill's Sankofa, Pez and Cream De La helped forge an exciting hip-hop sound that stood apart from its regional counterparts, inviting comparisons with such national hip-hop crews as the Roots. While Sankofa takes a break, DJ Pez and Cream De La are pursuing their individual paths, and are coming together for a rare joint performance. Co-sponsored by the James M. Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence and the Curriculum in Folklore.
